Fundraising Update

Sarah and I did some serious Pelotonia marketing over the weekend to our family, so fingers crossed we'll have an exciting update in a couple of weeks. I know everyone is watching their wallets closely, but just remember this is the only donation you can make that goes 100% to directly fight cancer. Right now we're nearly even in money raised, but still far from our goal. Check out my page or Sarah's page to help the cause.

Pelotonia on the Patio

Pelotonia is hosting a fundraising event on Thursday, June 18, from 5:00-9:00pm at the Park Street Patio. It costs $15, but includes an open bar for beer and wine for the night. A percentage of the tickets go towards fundraising efforts for the riders. You can help the cause simply by drinking (and by the looks of it, our fundraising cause definitely needs some help).

I'm Ron Burgandy?

So it's not for Pelotonia, but Will Ferrell has created a sunscreen line to benefit a cancer charity. With names like "Sexy Hot Tan" and "Forbidden Fruit" maybe we can raffle a few off for our own fundraising purposes?! Sweet packaging.

For Better or For Worse

This past weekend marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Peanie and Frank! They were married June 6, 1959. We're so blessed to have my grandma not just on this occassion, but everyday. We owe so much of this celebration to modern cancer research and treatment. We'll be officially celebrating this milestone in August with the entire family, just a few short weeks before the Pelotonia!

Productivity at its finest

101 days until we ride. And lets be honest here, we haven't gotten a whole lot done.

Number of notable bike workouts = 0
Amount of money raised between the two of us = $150 (lets just say I'm not carrying the weight)

Time to get in gear! Help Sarah and I out and support the Pelotonia.

Happy Mother's Day!

"You never realize how much your mother loves you till you explore the attic - and find every letter you ever sent her, every finger painting, clay pot, bead necklace, Easter chicken, cardboard Santa Claus, paper lace Mother's Day card and school report since day one."

Enjoy this gorgeous Mother's Day. We're so blessed to spend today with these lovely ladies and our grandmas, the whole reason we're riding!

"Short on money, long on time."

Ladies and gentleman, start your engines. Or, um in our case, remove your kickstands. We're both finally registered for the Pelotonia (finally clearly means me). Insert shameless plug for donations. Check out Sarah's donation page or mine. 130 days to raise $2K between the two of us. I'm going to be bold and champion that we double that by July 4. This is the ONLY initiative that gives 100% of your donation directly to cancer research!

"I Ride a Bike-Bikes-Bikecycle"

Lance Armstrong joins the Pelotonia! Armstrong will ride the 100 mile route and hopefully lend some star power to the tour. In the meantime, hopefully Armstrong (and Matt Lauer) make a speedy recovery from their bike accidents. Guess it's never to early for Sarah and I to start investigating our safety gear!

"Please allow me to introduce myself."

Welcome to Pelotonia for Peanie! This blog is dedicated to raising funds for essential cancer research. By now, you're probably wondering what a "Pelotonia" or a "Peanie" is. Let me explain.

Pelotonia
: A grass roots bike tour with an end goal to eliminate cancer. Beginning August 28th, the two-day ride will cover as many as 180 miles. 100 percent of every donation will fund research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Peanie
: Our grandma. Short in stature and large in heart. Due to early detection, she's been breast cancer free for over a year. She's also the cutie pie to the right in the header. Did we mention she's one of 7?

So who are we? We are cousins. Sarah and Ashley-- our mothers daughters. They're about a year apart, we're about a year apart. Their grandmother, Peanie's mother Anna, fought cervical cancer long before the days of cancer research as we know it.

Sarah the older (and possibly wiser) half of this duo is a research coordinator at
The Ohio State University Medical Center. She runs clinical trials on cancer patients, mostly on those with advanced lung cancer. My days are spent at a leading Midwest ad agency doing stuff just like this. While my job doesn't involve cancer, I do work a stone's throw from Pelotonia's headquarters. Close enough.

If our grandma and great-grandma can fight the battle against cancer, so can we. We're determined to pay it forward to the strong women who shaped our mother's and our lives. By doing our small part, we hope to bike 50 miles and raise at least $2K directly for research. And, after all, we've been hanging out and riding bikes together since the 80's.
Come back and find out more on how you can help. Pelotonia here we come!
